Chris Burndrett
I am a bow restorer, maker, and professional violinist living in Powder Springs, Georgia with my beautiful wife, Mary, and my sons, Caleb and Adam.
I graduated from Georgia State University with my degree in Violin Performance, studying with the esteemed professor Oliver Steiner. My performance career keeps me engaged in classical repertoire, studio recording, as well as film and TV. I feel that my active performance schedule informs my restoration and making in a way that is uncommon in the service side of the industry.
Studying the instrument and bow more intrinsically started with learning violin making from Robert D. Kimble. With Mr. Kimble, I learned the construction, function, form of the violin. Parallel to my time with him, I was in a recording studio at the Art Institute of Atlanta when an old repair on my beloved bow failed. This experience introduced me to Joshua Henry, whos training and mentorship within bow restoration and making continues to guide my thirst to learn.
In 2015, I began working as the bow restorer and sales manager for Mittenwald Master Violin Maker Stephanie Voss at Voss Violins, LLC. Under her leadership, I have been privileged to restore and maintain bows belonging to international soloists, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra string section, touring and freelance musicians and their talented students.
Just as learning to play the instruments never ends, I continue to train with Josh as well as via the Oberlin Making workshop (2022) and the Oberlin/ALI Restoration workshops (2018-2026). There, I have been honored to work on projects with Pete Oxley, David Orlin, Jerry Pasewicz, David Forbes, and Adam Goltry.
